A Trail of Broken Promises

Obamacare Two Years Later

We can sum up 2010’s sweeping health care overhaul in two words:  broken promises.

Prior to the law’s passage, supporters made a number of assurances or pledges about the general benefits of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  As for the specifics, Nancy Pelosi told us Congress would need to pass the bill before we would really know what was in it.

As you know, Washington passed the law two years ago this Friday. While the full range of consequences is still unclear, the contrast between what was promised and what has been delivered couldn’t be starker.

Two years later, many of our most serious concerns about the health care law have proved true. While we’ll continue to fight for reform that empowers consumers, controls costs, and improves quality and coverage, we need to acknowledge current provisions and upcoming mandates that are undercutting American competitiveness and businesses’ ability to hire and grow.

Sincerely,

Rob Engstrom
